Scorecard

Pukekohe Metro Cricket Club v United Cricket Club (Counties Manukau) Incorporated Senior B/Reserves Thumpers on Sat 21 Jan 2012 at 12:00 noon
United Cricket Club (Counties Manukau) Incorporated Won By 28 Runs.

Match report Batting first, the Crusaders scored 139 for 5 in 20 overs, built around two major partnerships - 44 for the third wicket between skipper Deepak Bhakoo (17) and Anuj Walia (38) and an unbroken 41 between Priyankit Bangia (20*) and Ashish Saini (20*) for the sixth wicket. Sarang Padey also chipped-in with a quickfire 18, batting at #5. The Crusaders needing to win by 17 runs to make the final, exhibited great intensity in the field as the bowlers bowled to their field & the fielders backed them up well. Deepanshu Taneja's economic opening spell of 4-0-13-0 was followed by Anuj Walia's typically probing & economic spell (4-1-16-1), while the Crusaders' new recruit Taine Douglas seemed to be struggling in his first over, bowling with the wind. He was replaced by Simar Bahl (4-0-21-1), who struck in his first over, while Bharat Oberoi (4-0-27-2) returned for his last over & struck twice to have Puke at 5/78 in 15 overs. Changing Taine's bowling end & having him bowl into the wind paid instant dividends as he bowled Hayden Smith-Pilling off the first ball of his second spell & followed it up by two wickets in his next over to finish with impressive debut figures of 3-0-16-3, while Homi Mistry (1-0-5-1) also got into the act from the other end, putting an end to the resistance shown by James (13). The Crusaders' awesome fielding display also brought them two run-outs (one each by Taine Douglas & Homi Mistry, both assisted by wicket-keeper Priyankit Bangia) & restricted the Pukekohe innings to 103 all out in 20 overs, which swelled to 111 with the aid of 8 penalty runs on account of one over bowled short by the Crusaders in the stipulated time. The United CC Harxin Corpn Crusaders, thus, emerged as the worthy winners by 28 runs.

UNITED CC HARXIN CORPORATION CRUSADERS FINISHED THE ROUND-ROBIN AS THE TOP TEAM DUE TO THEIR BETTER NET RUN RATE AS COMPARED TO MANUKAU (SECOND) AND PUKEKOHE METRO (THIRD), ALTHOUGH ALL THREE TEAMS WERE EQUAL ON 8 POINTS. WAIUKU FINISHED LAST WITH NIL POINTS, HAVING LOST ALL THREE OF THEIR ROUND-ROBIN MATCHES.

UNITED CC HARXIN CORPORATION CRUSADERS & MANUKAU ADVANCED TO THE FINALS, WHILE PUKEKOHE METRO & WAIUKU PLAYED FOR THE THIRD SPOT.
