Hi All,
Massey Park Cricket Club Golden Jubilee was held Friday fortnight ago (03/03/2017) at Murphy's Law Irish Bar, Drury.
The function was well attended by many of the past players of the club, coming from far and wide...South Island to Austraila (to mention a few) along with current members of the UCC to help celebrate this grand occasion.
After early mix and mingle to get things going, the short formal part of the function kicked off with John Bongard (Jubilee Committee) welcoming all and giving a brief run down on proceedings for the event.
Selected past players Dave Lendrum,Tup Burnside, Paul Corbett and Jim Goldfinch were invited to walk the gathering through the five decades of history of the club, with their personal accounts of happenings and events...some interesting memories and goings on were covered to entertain the crowd.
Mike Bongard (Jubilee Committee) spoke next in regards to the transition of the amalgamation of MPCC and Ardmore Cricket Clubs to form the United Cricket Club, he touched on how important it was for the UCC to know their history of the foundation clubs, so that both past and present players and associates can get in behind our new hybrid club and support its future.
Mike then presented the N.A McConnell Pasts V Present Cup to the United Cricket Club President Matt Mudford, who then spoke about the importance of this gathering and how it is hoped that the event will spur more support and interest for UCC and its future.
This ended the formal part to the night...and left all to continue to celebrate well into the night..
The Jubilee Committee thanks all those who attended, and is pleased to announce that a sizeable profit from the night will be donated to the United Cricket Club to help support project for the future..
It is hoped that this will not be just a one off event, and things are already underway to get the ball rolling for the future....watch this space.
Cheers ...Thumper...
