Reserve 1 Hand Karaka Red A Drubbing

11 Jan 2009

The post-Christmas opening Reserve One encounter between United Cricket Club and Karaka Red at Drury Sports Complex on Saturday, 10th January 2009 was a thorough one-sided affair, with the hosts handing out a drubbing to Karaka Red, cementing them firmly to bottom of the table.

Fielding first, United bundled the visitors out for a meagre 92. Thomas Raybould continued to be the nemesis of the Karaka Red batsmen, getting his second hat-trick of the 2008-09 season against them in two matches. His figures of 9-4-15-5 are now his best figures for the season, improving over his previous best of 9-1-30-5 against Papakura. In doing so, he took his wickets tally for the season to 22, seven more than second-placed Shane Lovell (15 wickets). Callum Jude (7-1-13-2), Matthew Forrest (1.4-0-4-1), Liam Jackson (4-1-8-1) and Lawrence Minchinton (6-1-19-1) were the other wicket-takers.

In reply, United overhauled the Karaka Red score for the loss of only 4 wickets and with as many as 26 overs to spare, the main contributions coming from the blades of Ian Adamson (18 not out), Lee Ter Huurne (18) and Josh Burgess (14).

United now play Pukekohe Metro at home on Saturday, 17th January 2009.
