Giant-Killing Marauders Pip Top Guns Pirates
10 Feb 2009
With two league matches to go, the Reserve 2 Marauders pipped the top-of-the-table Weymouth Pirates to the post by snatching a last-ball win by 3 wickets. They now occupy the #4 position on the league table & could well end up at #3, with games against #5 Mauku & bottom-placed Pukekohe Metro (#8) to go.
Fielding first, the Marauders bundled out the Pirates for 168 in the 33rd over, as a result of some disciplined bowling & sharp fielding. Homi Mistry bagged 3 scalps, Graham Johnson & John Whiting bagged 2 each, while Rick Eastham chipped-in with the last one and some excellent fielding yielded two run-outs, one each by Homi Mistry & Shane O'Neill.
The chase never got out of hand due to the good contributions by the top order - Rick Eastham (26), Shane O'Neill (48) & Kevin Wells (45 not out) were the major scorers - aided by the long handle of Graham Johnson (14), that was vital in achieving the last-ball victory.
Match Summary :
Weymouth Pirates - 168 all out (Shitbeard 45, Chode 38; Homi Mistry 8-1-31-3, John Whiting 7-1-23-2, Graham Johnson 8-0-32-2, Rick Eastham 1.2-0-4-1)
United - 170 for 7 (Shane O'Neill 48, Kevin Wells 45 not out, Rick Eastham 26; Sherrif 4/47, Frypan 2/25).
