Safety Advice From Pagey & Thumper
03 Jul 2009
Thumper says, "I love the game of cricket & enjoy every bit of it. But, I get a bit worried when I see players ignoring my safety advice & paying the price. It hurts me when a senior player cops a serious injury as a result of his over-confidence in his abilities, disregarding the recommended safety requirements. As they say, some people learn it the hard way, as proved by our dear old Bruce "Pagey" Page, who qualified for the dubious title of Injury of The Season 2008-09. All he needed to avoid that injury was a grill on his helmet. He is now much wiser after the biggest injury of his career & has some advice to offer on Safety a la myself. Get into action NOW to get your safety equipment organised for the coming season ! Off-season bargains are available everywhere. Bargains or no bargains, SAFETY COMES FIRST, anyway !"
Pagey's advice (in his own words of wisdom), "Don’t walk down the pitch to a young fast bowler without a grill on your helmet....(old helmet)....( went too early, he saw me coming)........I kept my eye on the ball literally. Ha, Ha!!! Next time I’ll hit it with the bat. Please wear a grilled helmet while batting. If you don't like my advice, just have a look at my picture & see if your mind changes. I bet, it will ! Please, ALWAYS PUT SAFETY FIRST !!!"
Pagey adds, "After 25 years experience of senior cricket, my first major cut (not bad)......Getting older and slower does have some hazards......At the end of the day, enjoy the game and have a beer (over 18s), Cheers."
