United Reserve One Win By Default As Mauku Fails To Field A Team
23 Jan 2010
United CC Reserve One were supposed to take on Mauku CC in a crucial game at Drury today & the weather was expected to play spoilsport. Instead, it was the lack of sufficient players available for Mauku (as informed by Mauku's player-manager Chris Innes) that spoiled the day for the United outfit, who were keen to perform & gain two vital points. Although the United Reserve One boys gained the two points, it wasn't the way they wanted to get them - they were keen to get them by using their cricketing skills. United are now joint second on the ladder along with Mauku & Weymouth at 12 points each, while Waiuku are placed at the top with 18 points.
Hungry for some cricket, the United boys played a highly competitive 5-a-side Twenty20 game featuring shared fielding & two knocks per batsman to satisfy their appetite, with the two teams led by Jonathan Lawrence (Johnny) & Ian Adamson. Batting first, Johnny's team scored 172 in their 20 overs & Ian's team chased it down successfully with 5 balls to spare, Ronit Ghaiee hitting an unbeaten 51.
Score Summary:
Johnny's Team 172/5 in 20 overs (Owen Ford 43, Michael Gordon 34 not out, Johnny 25, Nathan Palmer 19, Dean Ross 18, Ronit Ghaiee 2/29, Rajat Malhotra 1/18, Ian Adamson 1/35)
Ian's Team 173/8 in 19.1 overs (Ronit Ghaiee 51 not out, Deepak Bhakoo 31, Rajat Malhotra 27, Callum Jude 24, Ian Adamson 8, Nathan Palmer 3/25, Owen Ford 2/38, Johnny 1/30, Dean Ross 1/36, Michael Gordon 1/40).
