After putting on 275/6 in their first innings with the help of handy contributions from most of their batsmen -
Harley Bayliss (59),
Josh Burgess (47),
Jonathan Lawrence (47),
Matthew Forrest (38),
Neal McIntosh (31no) and
Anthony Brookes (21no) - United CC's
Buy Right Cars Senior A wasted no time in putting Karaka on the back foot.
Skipper Harley Bayliss and senior pro Matthew Forrest came up with extremely attacking field-placements and opening bowlers Anthony Brookes (13-8-14-4) and
Dean Ross (7-1-16-3) came up with the perfect line and length required to make such field settings work to perfection. Dean Ross grabbed the first three wickets, putting Karaka in a spot of bother at 13/3 from 11.2 overs. Anthony Brookes then exhibited his miserly and menacing side, sending the next four batsmen packing in four consecutive overs, conceding only one run in the process. First change bowler Neal McIntosh joined-in in the act, getting the eighth Karaka wicket while Josh Burgess, bowling the penultimate over of the day, also came close to snaring one sans luck.
Karaka ended the day at 51/8, trailing
Buy Right Cars United Senior A by 224 runs with only two first innings wickets in hand, facing the strong prospect of an outright loss. Go United!!!
