Ross Taylor celebrated his 27th birthday in style, scoring an unbeaten 131 from 124 balls to take the Black Caps to an extremely healthy 302/7 from their 50 overs against Pakistan in their World Cup pool game at Kandy in Sri Lanka. Taylor, in the company of Jacob Oram & Kyle Mills, plundered 92 runs from the last 4 overs of the innings after the batting powerplay (overs 42-46) had only yielded 37 runs & a score of 230-240 looked to be a good score. Taylor toyed with the Pakistani bowlers, treating Shoaib Akhtar (28 runs in one over) & Abdul Razzaq (30 runs in one over) with utter disdain in particular, making the hapless bowlers forget the basics of bowling & almost reduced them to tears.
