"THE DUCK HAS BEEN BROKEN...THE WEAPON IS THE MARAUDERS"

02 Nov 2012

It may have taken sometime but the Marauders have finally got the monkey off their backs and have `THE WEAPON` in their possession.

Skipper for the Marauders Shane (two..LL's) O'Neill had a grin from ear
to ear at the close of play as he had finally achieved what he been gunning for all last season.... to wrestle the challenge trophy away from his counter-part Deepak Bhakoo of the Crusaders.

Last Saturday the elder statesmen of the club (the Marauders) took it to the all conquering Crusaders of last season in a hard fought match played out at United's temporary home ground for this season, Mclennan's Park, Papakura.

With the Marauders winning the toss and electing first use of the wicket the `old Boys` had a brisk start, find of the season (so far!) Jarrod Caulkin
and Rick Eastham blazed away and when Jarrod was out (not quite completing a well deserved half-century) the Marauders were up and running with 60+plus on the board and plenty of overs in the bank.
The dizzy scoring rate dropped somewhat with tight and accurate bowling from the young and up-incoming bowling attack, this culminated in restricting the rest of the innings. (Small batting cameo's were provided by
Shane O'Neill and Mike Bongard)
The final score line of 157 for 8 of the allocated 40 overs, was thought to be par for the course and maybe 20 or so runs more could have been a better result.

The Crusaders start was for them short lived with some tight and fiery bowling from the Marauders opening pair Jacko Myers and Adam (Nail) Dunn this saw wickets falling at a coincident rate.
Some deft bowling changers from the Marauders captain saw
Rick Eastham and Dave Bradshaw brought on as change bowlers, they in turn weaved their magic and had the under-strength Crusaders batting line-up struggling.
Bradshaw and Eastham taking the bulk of the wickets to have the Crusaders all out in the 20 over for 80 runs.

For the Marauders, the best possible start and a hope of m
aybe a better season in front of them than last year.
The Crusaders, they will need to re-group with some key personal missing (especially in the batting department)for this first game, a chance to firm-up their line-up and push-on with the rest of the season will be their goal............ and of course another challenge for the ~THE WEAPON~.....
