Manukau Cricket Club v United Cricket Club (Counties Manukau) Incorporated Reserve 1 on Sat 06 Feb 2010 at 12:30pm
United Cricket Club (Counties Manukau) Incorporated Lost By 82 Runs.

Match report Winning the toss, Manukau elected to bat first. United took the field with just 9 players, with ace bowler Nathan Palmer & Michael Gordon arriving after the 8th over. In Nathan's absence & with Liam Jackson a bit unfit, Callum Jude & Rajat Malhotra opened the bowling & not only bowled to the smart under-manned field settings, but grabbed a wicket each in their respective first spells. Callum had a spell of 5-2-8-1, in which he got opener Glen(0) caught by Anuj & Rajat had a spell of 5-0-12-1, getting the dangerous Brock Nash(4) caught behind by Jonathan Lawrence. Manukau were 21/2 after 9.4 overs, when Azza(16) joined Kevin Yeh(61) & the two added 38 runs in just under 10 overs off the bowling of Owen Ford (first spell of 5-0-25-0) & Nathan Palmer (first spell of 4-1-11-0) before Liam Jackson (7-1-27-3) removed Azza in his first over through a very well-judged catch by Ronit Ghaiee. Changing Nathan's end worked well as he had a 2nd spell of 2-1-1-1, in which he removed ex-United Cameron Bell(0) via a leaping catch by Anuj Walia while Liam snared Josh(3) from the other end, courtesy wicket-keeper Jonathan Lawrence's one-handed diving brilliance. An expensive over by a tiring Liam saw the re-introduction of Callum Jude (8-3-21-2) who clean-bowled Gavin McDonald(7) with the first ball & Rajat Malhotra (9-0-25-1), who once again put the brakes on scoring & when he bowled out his 9 overs, Manukau were 92/6 from 31 overs. Nathan Barthow(14) & Kevin Yeh took the score to 118 from 37.1 overs before Liam got rid of the former, caught by Ronit Ghaiee. The advent of Kevin Watts (18 not out) at the crease accelerated the scoring, with Nathan Palmer's impressive figures of 7-2-13-1 being dented to 9-2-37-1. At this stage, Michael Gordon was introduced into the attack & impressed with some tight bowling (3-0-9-0), while Owen bowling from the other end, finally got the better of Kevin Yeh & got him caught by Callum Jude before conceding 16 runs in the last over to finish with 9-0-49-1. Manukau finished with a pretty impressive 174/8 from 45 overs.

United CC, who were without the services of their top two batsmen, Lee Ter Huurne (on Senior A duty) & Josh Anderson (foot injury), started their reply with a new opening combination of Rajat Malhotra(24) & Ronit Ghaiee(7), who added a pretty useful 38 runs, which ended up as being the highest partnership of the innings. Glen (4-0-29-0) got punished by the two openers while Nathan Barthow bowled a dream spell of 6-3-9-1, during which he got Rajat to edge one to the weeket-keeper in his last over. In the 13th over of the innings, former United CC player Cameron Bell (well known for his speed but not accuracy) was introduced to the attack & triggered a collapse, removing Ronit, Deepak Bhakoo(2), Jonathan Lawrence(17) & Ian Adamson(2) during an unchanged spell of 9-3-31-4, including 13 wides. From the other end, United's usual nemesis Brock Nash, who at one stage had figures of 5.2-1-22-0 after having been hit for a six by Owen Ford(6), cast a remarkable spell thereafter, finishing with figures of 9-4-22-4, getting 4 wickets from 3.4 overs without conceding a run, removing Owen, Anuj Walia(7), Liam Jackson(0) & Callum Jude(2). Kevin Watts (1.2-1-0-1) removed last man Michael Gordon(0) while Nathan Palmer remained unbeaten on 2. Joint second-placed United finished at 92 all out from 29.2 overs, losing their last 7 wickets for 18 runs & the last 5 wickets for just 9 runs to give fifth-placed Manukau an upset victory by 82 runs & consequently dropping down to the third position on the Reserve One Championship ladder.
