Senior A Beat Weymouth As Dean Ross Grabs A Five-For

31 Oct 2009

Hosting Weymouth CC in the second round of the One Day Competition, United CC won the toss & put the visitors in to bat, who managed to get to 122 courtesy their late order batsmen after the top order collapsed in the face of some remarkable bowling by Dean Ross (10-2-17-5) & Anthony Brookes (7-2-20-3). Neal McIntosh (4-0-17-1) & Terrence Brookes (3.1-0-17-1) were the other successful bowlers, while Thomas Raybould (9-1-16-0) was his usual economic self.

Skipper Harley Bayliss promoted himself in the batting order to open the innings instead of Aaron Rowe, who had opened & top scored in last week's game. Harley took another step towards winning the dubious "Chuck, The Duck" trophy, adding another duck to match his last week's score. Josh Burgess (23) & next batsman Neal McIntosh (31) put-on 73 runs for the second wicket, when Neal got stumped off Sunit Agnihotri's bowling. JB & Matthew Forrest (31) took the score close to the target before losing their wickets, followed by Aaron Rowe (1), leaving it to Fraser White (3 not out) & Matthew Mudford (5 not out) to finish the task with 10 balls & 5 wickets to spare & earn the first win of the season.
